About Us

Picture of Karen Hawley and Linda Powers
"Alphacritters" is a whimsical alphabet based on  original hand-drawn artwork by Karen Hawley.  The "critters" originated from an idea that she had as a kid.  Back then, she did "name pictures" in water colours for friends and family alike and was surprised to discover that her  cousin, after many years, still had hers hanging in her room!  In 1997 with her mom, they founded "Alphacritters" and the business partnership was born! Sadly in November 2007, Karen passed after a courageous battle with cancer. Linda with help from her husband Bill, strives to to perpetuate Karen's memory and preserve her legacy by exhibiting at shows in Eastern Canada.

Initially, they just sold children's Name Pictures, that enjoy continued popularity (thank you, thank you!).
Later they  added Hand-Painted Frames and Solid Coloured Wood Frames. The book "Critters For Company" was published in 2006.
